This unit reflects describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.
It applies to persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
There are no prerequisites for this unit of competency.
The HLTAID003 – Provide first aid unit is undertaken independently (by law) every three (3) years for currency

Minimum Age requirement is 18 years of age at the time of enrolment and be physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor. Student should be able to bend their knees and perform CPR on floor.
As a minimum, entrants to the course must have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2. An example of an ACSF Level 2 competency is being able to read and comprehend simple written documents, request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of the incident and complete incident reports.
Reading and writing – a learner will be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts.
Oral communication – a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts. Numeracy and mathematics – a learner will be able to recognize and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics.
Duration and Volume of Learning
This training program will be delivered:
- over two (2) days, a total of 12-hour duration, consisting of both theoretical and practical learning, plus six (6) hours of self-paced learning.
- Over one (1) day following satisfactory completion of a pre-course workbook – submitted a minimum of five (5) days prior to face-to-face session
This course is delivered by ATT on any day of the week. Two (2) day courses can be scheduled on consecutive days or non consecutive days to meet the need of the student(s).
The course will be delivered in a face-to-face in a classroom training environment on campus. It will not be delivered in the workplace.

Training facilities are equipped with electronic facilitation equipment as well as the resources to deliver the training outlined in Appendix 2.
Mode of Delivery
The program is to be delivered in a classroom-based environment. Due to the nature and content of this unit of competency it is recommended that a maximum of 10 students in a class at any given time.
No part of this course will be delivered or assessed as “on line learning”.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfer (CT)
Due to the nature and content of this course Active Transition Training does not recommend RPL. CT is not available.
